No regrets from Brendan Rodgers after scathing comments about referees

Brendan Rodgers has said that he has no regrets over the comments that he made after the defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle. The Scottish Champions were on the wrong end of two dubious decisions from referee Don Robertson and John Beaton on VAR.

Defend the team, defend the club

Speaking to the media this afternoon ahead of the Scottish Cup Quarter Final against Livingston on Sunday, Rodgers said that he and the club will defend the comments at the hearing at the end of the month.

“No, not at all,” he said. “My job is to defend the team, defend the club and that’s what we will do in this case.

“We will defend it vigorously and when the date comes we will go from there. I will sit down with the club and the lawyers and we will look at it from there.”

Rodgers was furious at the two calls that saw Yang sent off and then, just before half-time, Hearts were given the chance to score from the spot after Iwata was penalised for a hand ball that he didn’t know anything about.

Indeed the Japanese midfielder wasn’t aware that the penalty was given against him until he was told in the Celtic dressing room at half-time on Sunday.
