    Is Bernardo worth keeping?

Reports yesterday suggested that Celtic are ready to trigger or re-negotiate Paulo Bernardo’s loan deal into a permanent deal, it all just depends on what rumour you believe.

That doesn’t stop us from asking the question, is Paulo worth keeping around on a permanent basis?

A few months ago the answer would be a resounding yes. But his form has wavered a little and now talk of him being signed up permanently is splitting opinions.

    Reasonable enough

There’s no doubt he has the talent and the potential to be a terrific player, he plays for top club in Benfica after all. At 22 he is still developing and has all the attributes to make it to the very top, so the fee that has been mentioned which is £6 million seems reasonable enough for a talented Portuguese under 21 international.

With Matt O’Riley likely to be on his way this summer for a healthy fee then it wouldn’t be the worst decision to reinvest some of that money on a player of Paulo’s calibre and potential.

On the other hand at that price there could be other alternatives out there worth exploring. Time will tell.

The decision will be made by Brendan Rodgers who sees the player in training every day and will understand the potential and what he can deliver for Celtic going forward, if a deal is agreed.
