Portuguese FA sends message to Lisbon bound Celtic supporters

Celtic FC SLO John Paul Taylor posted an important piece of information thoughtfully send to Celtic by the Portuguese FA about restricted access to their national stadium.  That’s also our hallowed ground where on 25 May 1967 Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup, in a remarkable final against Inter Milan.

A Magical place for Celtic supporters

And ever since Celtic supporters have continued to make the trip to Lisbon to visit the National Stadium and to savour the atmosphere.  The goal where the Jim Craig conceded that early penalty. That allowed the Italians to shut up shop.  And where in the second half first Tommy Gemmell and then Stevie Chalmers scored to bring the European Cup back to Paradise.

Singing The Celtic Song” in the Tunnel

There’s the tunnel where the Bhoys sang “The Celtic Song”.  The spot high up in the main stand where Cesar held the Big Cup aloft and gave us those iconic images that have been passed down the generations.

It’s an experience of a lifetime for any Celtic supporter and there’s talk of the stadium, which today is very much like it was in 1967, being redeveloped next year and with that some of the Celtic aura around the place will be lost forever.

The password is C-E-L-T-I-C

Celtic fans visit all year round and while the ground is usually closed there is a magic password that always gets the warmest of welcomes and the gates opened, and you will be treated like a VIP. That password is C-E-L-T-I-C.

However the message from the Portuguese FA to Celtic supporters concerns certain days this month and in June, including 25th May – when the stadium regretfully will not be receiving visitors.

The message states from Portuguese FA: “We would like you to inform Celtic FC fans that our National Stadium (Jamor) will not be receiving visits on May 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th, June 7th to 10th, because of the National Cup Final and National team match against Croatia.”

Anytime after 10th June will be fine and remember with those re-development works taking place starting early next year, there’s now a short six months or so window to make the trip and sample the magic for yourself.  It is an incredibly special place for everyone connected with Celtic Football Club.
