Kyogo 5”7 and under 10 stone remarks still amusing three years on

When Kyogo Furuhashi signed for Celtic three years ago it would be fair to say he was something of an unknown quantity outside his native Japan.

What could possibly go wrong?

Celtic supporters were very welcoming to the Japanese international, but some of our rival supporters weren’t that kind in their initial assessments of the Japanese striker.

One such account on X by the name of ‘Ryan Clark Kent’ was famously quick to judge Kyogo when they tweeted ‘just putting it out there. Their new Japanese player joining the SPFL is 5”7 and under 10 stone… what could possibly go wrong’ followed by a trio of laughing emojis.

The account in question was clearly having a laugh at our expense, and was confident Kyogo would struggle in the physical landscape of Scottish football.

Fast forward three years

Fast forward three years and Kyogo is a three in a row champion as well as a treble winner, with six honours out of a possible eight, and another up for grabs on Saturday.

Not to mention his record of 73 goals in 132 appearances. Eight of those goals coming against the Rangers, including two in a cup final against the Ibrox side.

Kyogo has had the last laugh

Kyogo has certainly had the last laugh over Ryan Clark Kent and those who laughed along at his post. The account in question has long since deleted his tweet. Thank goodness for screenshots eh? It’s still as amusing three years on.
