James Forrest: “He deserves all the credit in the world,” Callum McGregor

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has hailed teammate James Forrest for the massive contribution that the veteran winger has made since Brendan Rodgers saw sense back in March by restoring ‘the best winger at the club’ to the Celtic squad.

Jamesy started by making an impact from the bench. That got him back his starting spot which he is in no danger of losing over the remaining two matches of the season.  These are against St Mirren for yet another Trophy Day for James Forrest, then another Scottish Cup Final at Hampden, this time against theRangers.

Forrest could do a job for Scotland

And his Celtic captain, and long-term teammate reckons that Scotland boss Steve Clarke may well add James Forrest to his Scotland squad heading to Germany for the Euro 2024 early next month.

“James has made a big difference to the team in terms of his ball retention,” the Celtic captain said, as reported by Glasgow Times. “He has been a big part of the team elevating their level in terms of how good he has been.

“Hopefully, he can keep pushing and play the last couple of games and you never know he might end up in the Scotland squad as well.

James certainly has the quality

“The system that the manager wants to play is a right wing back role. I’d never dream of telling the Scotland manager who to pick. But James certainly has the quality and he could play in that position and give us a little bit more of an attacking threat.

“It would be amazing if he managed to get back in for the tournament. He’s just got to keep pushing and knocking on the door and hopefully, he gets in,” Calmac said.

The James Forrest medal collection – all won at Celtic – has seen him draw level with Lisbon Lion Billy McNeill and just one short of Bobby Lennox, a fellow Ayrshire man. And there’s always the chance that James Forrest could surpass the Buzzbomb next season. Callum McGregor reckons his pal deserves all the credit that’s going for his achievements in the Hoops.

“I just saw that he is now on 23 winners’ medals. He deserves every bit of credit in the world for that,” Callum McGregor said.

He deserves all the credit in the world

“There have been some top players who have played at this club and to be up there pushing for accolades like that speaks volumes for how good he is, his professionalism, his mentality and how he has looked after himself. He deserves all the credit in the world.”
