Scotland International, John McGinn, has commented on the official Japanese Aston Villa X/Twitter page, about the various places he would like to visit in Japan, but mentions a familiar name.
It is no secret that McGinn has close ties with Celtic, as he frequently discusses the Bhoys in various interviews, as well as having a family connection through his grandfather, Jack McGinn who served as chairman for the Hoops.
McGinn’s Tribute
In the clip, the Aston Villa captain states that he would like to visit Tokyo, as well as Yokohama because one of his favourite ever Celtic players played for the Yokohama Marinos, this of course being Shunsuke Nakamura. McGinn said:
“Tokyo. I have always wanted to visit Tokyo but also Yokohama, as one of my favourite ever Celtic players, Shunsuke Nakamura, played for Yokohama Marinos. I think he only recently retired, so Naka, what a player, number 25, what a guy.”

McGinn’s admiration for Nakamura is entirely understandable when considering the calibre of player the King of Japan was. The incredible moments and memories he created while wearing a Celtic jersey still resonate with many of us today.
Celtic Star Books recently published Matt Corr’s brilliant Majic, Stan and the King of Japan and copies are available HERE. It’s a brilliant book telling the story of Naka’s first season at Celtic.
