On This Day: Celtic thrash Rangers at Hampden

On This Day in 2018, Celtic thrashed Rangers to seal a place in the Scottish Cup Final. Brendan Rodgers’ side went into the game after the Rangers players celebrated the draw. In the time that elapsed, Celtic beat Rangers 3-2 at Ibrox to effectively extinguish their title hopes.

Moussa Dembele rattled the post from an Ntcham cross in the early exchanges. The Frenchman was involved in the opener, taking down a pass from Lustig before laying the ball off to James Forrest. The winger clipped it into the box for Tom Rogic and The Wizard sat Ross McCrorie down before curling it beyond Wes Fotheringham.

The Australian had another chance but his effort was saved low by the Rangers goalkeeper. It wasn’t long before it was 2-0 when KT’s cross was knocked into the path of CalMac, who hit a brilliant strike to score.

The second half saw a similar pattern of dominance. McCrorie saw red after hauling Dembele down. Celtic’s talisman stepped up and panenka’d Fotheringham.

Celtic scored from the spot again after Paddy Roberts was brought down in the box. Olivier Ntcham stepped up and netted a Glasgow Derby goal for himself.

It was 4-0 but the game was done in the first half. Notable mention for Andy Halliday being subbed in the first half and having the Celtic End at Hampden singing his name.

Celtic: Gordon; Lustig, Ajer, Boyata, Tierney; Brown, Ntcham, Forrest, Rogic, McGregor, Dembele.

Subs: Bain, Simunovic, Kouassi, Roberts, Sinclair, Edouard & Griffiths.
