Celtic offered powerful Serie B defensive midfielder

Celtic have been offered Charles Pickel by Cremonese as the club begin preparations for next season.

According to Football Scotland, Pickel has been put to the Scottish Champions as Brendan Rodgers looks to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks for next season.

A product of the FC Basel youth academy, Pickel is currently plying his trade in Italy. It is reported that the player would prefer a move to Celtic over the English Championship with Leeds United one of the teams cited as being interested.

Standing at 6ft1, Pickel is strong in the tackle and dominant in the air. This would match the profile of a defensive midfielder that would help Celtic kick on in Europe – which is the manager’s ambition.

Rodgers has said that he wants pace and power in his side and the DR Congo Internationalist would certainly fit this brief. The addition of another midfielder that can play in the deeper role would allow Callum McGregor to be utilised further forward or in two deeper roles, especially in Europe or in trickier away games.
