Brendan confirms Daizen Maeda’s season appears to be over

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic winger Daizen Maeda is likely to miss the remainder of the season. The Japanese winger was substituted at Ibrox and it has been confirmed by the manager that he has suffered from a hamstring injury.

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-0 win over St Mirren, the Irishman confirmed that Maeda’s campaign was all but over.

“Unfortunately, I’m not sure we’ll see Daizen again this season, I don’t expect him to feature too much. It’s such a small window for him now. But Liam is different. Hopefully he’ll be OK.”

The injury is a blow but it means that the manager will require another winger to step up and deliver. Liam Scales will likely be looking to come back into the first team picture after missing the game at the weekend. Maik Nawrocki was assured but the Celtic manager will need to decide whether to continue with the Polish defender or reintroduce Scales.

After Ross County beat Rangers at Dingwall this afternoon, Brendan’s team are in pole position for the title. Celtic are four points clear with five games remaining, albeit Rangers have a game in hand.
