Kelsey Daugherty has enjoyed an outstanding debut season in the Celtic FC Women goals after arriving last August from National Women’s Soccer League side, Racing Louisville FC. and has even earned a spot as a contender for the club’s Player of the Year awards with the shortlists for various categories via the official Celtic website.
Elena Sadiku
Elena Sadiku’s side experienced the thrill of a Glasgow Derby victory over theRangers Women for the first time this season on St Patrick’s Day and have had to wait a fortnight to get back down to business in the second post-split fixture away to Glasgow City.
Daugherty has been immense in the Celtic goals and while the firepower of Kit Loferski, Amy Gallacher and the goal-machine Tash Flint looks set to be significant in the three-way title battle, the quality of the Celtic keeper might also end up being a crucial factor in Celtic fulfilling the club’s ambition to with the SWPL1 title for the first time ever.
St Patrick’s Day win
That St Patrick’s Day win over theRangers Women was special but it’s impact will be lost if Celtic can’t make further statement tomorrow afternoon at Petershill Park over in Springburn. It’s a park where Celtic have always struggled, especially when the weather is bad. Kick-off tomorrow is at 4.10pm and the match is live o BBC Alba so Celtic’s armchair supporters can make a Super Sunday of it with two games starting with the Bhoys at Livingston at noon.
For Kelsey Daugherty getting that win over theRangers Women was awesome.
Kelsey Daugherty
“Yeah, it was an awesome game to be involved in. It was a good performance, and a good result. So what more can you say other than we were really happy!
“I think it’s super important to get off to that good start in the post-split games. Obviously we started strong in a busy part of the season as well, and then we’ve got Glasgow City now the following match into the split.
“It will be a tough start following theRangers game, but hopefully a good one!”
🗣️ “We’re just thinking about ourselves. We’re focused on what we can do, and how we can get better.”
