Introducing ‘Green, white and silverware’ by Matthew Marr

A new book series aims to fill in these gaps. ‘Green, white and silverware’ takes an in-depth look at different triumphs that have shaped Celtic’s story across the decades.

This book – which focuses on the era from 1889 to 1902 – is the first in a two-part series with the second part (1914-1977) out next year.

Numerous anecdotes fill the pages, including the mystery of what happened to Celtic’s first trophy or why the club owns a prize that names only Rangers as winners.

You can also learn about the time the Bhoys became ‘world champions’ (sort of…) or learn about how war and Celtic Park renovations were the backdrop for a different type of league title.

This series has been written by Celtic researcher and writer Matthew Marr, who has written numerous articles for us on both The Celtic Star and now Celtic Shorts and appears on various podcasts telling Celtic’s story.

Matthew also runs the outstanding and always free Celtic history walking tours where you get fitness and facts about the club we all love.

The ‘Green, white and silverware’ author first started going to see Celtic in the 1980s and has had a season ticket since 1992. His main Celtic interest is the club’s history, especially the early years. In 2023, Matthew published his first Celtic book, telling the story of the Bhoys’ first league title on Celtic Star Books.

Today sees long awaited the launch of ‘Green, white and silverware’ and for Celtic supporters who want to know the history of the club this fills in so many blanks to provide a clearer picture of the early successes of club and to ensure that so many of these stories of Celtic’s successes are told properly for the very first time.

His new book is highly recommended and is available now at the Celtic Superstores and also online in hardback, paperback or Kindle. It’s the ideal gift for Santa to leave under your tree this Christmas!

To buy any version of the book click HERE or pop into the Celtic Superstore.
