Shim Mheuka is a gifted footballer who has a burning desire to succeed. Celtic should make the most of him during his loan spell at the club…

Shumaira Mheuka made his England under 20 bow during a recent 3-1 win over their Italian counterparts, which shows how much the 18 year old is regarded down south.

The 18 year old joined Celtic on a one year loan deal from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, and has impressed in his few fleeting appearances from the bench in his short time at the club.

Big, strong, and technically good on the ball, Mheuka has the potential to be a terrific striker in the coming years.

Chelsea rate him highly, that’s why he’s at Celtic in a bid to get him some valuable first team experience, and for me now is the time to give him a run in the side to show his true worth.

Some will scoff at the notion of developing another club’s top prospect, but that’s just the way football works now, and we’ve just got to get on with it and use it to our advantage.

Mheuka is sort of an unknown quantity in our football, so that along with his hunger and desire to succeed can prove to be to the player and clubs advantage in a time we could be doing with a major boost in confidence.

Summer signings like Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh will get the nod to play as our two main strikers but Hogh in particular has not been impressing other than his hat-trick down at Rugby Park.  Both are big money signings and need to be given time but Mheuka brings something of a fresh challenge, and one that could sharpen us in an attacking sense.

The 18 year old has a burning desire to do well at the very top as he has aspirations to become a top class footballer. Honing those skills at Celtic will naturally put him in the spotlight.

It’s time for Martin O’Neill to use that to his advantage, and set the 18 year old loose on Scottish football.

Shim Mheuka possesses the necessary talent, but just as importantly he’s fully deserving of the chance to start for Celtic.

I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Shorts colleagues.

      Big shout admittedly.
On paper, with a fully fit squad of attacking options.
We had the exciting prospect of 9 being available. With only 6 possibly within a 20man SPFL match day squad?
So competition would have been high, with the rotational option available?
So nothing wrong with the plan that was in place imo?

Even with jota only on the recovery path, yang away and Osmand injured. We still should have had enough, to deal with such a situation, than we actually did, within our attacking areas.

Yet we have become dysfunctional throughout our team, to a degree, that we don’t know what our strongest starting 11 is. And in what manner our team should even be set up now?

Until that is settled upon, then nothing more than trying to fit round pegs into square holes is in existence imo?
Every player, has there own skillset, for which they are strongest and more comfortable in playing.

Yet that skillset counts for nothing, if it can’t be transformed into the benefit of our team?
Shim has talents no doubt. But still potentially a 4th choice striker if everyone is available. The reason for that is he’s a loan player, against 3 who is under contract.

With that in mind, we need to find solutions, where our 3 contracted strikers, have to be more effective for our team, with Shim adapting?

At present that falls upon MoN and his coaching staff.
To decide upon how our team is going to set up, with ever player knowing there roles within it?
Will suit some players, while others will have to adapt, hopefully with better understanding and confidence throughout our team?
At present, none of the requirements are on show, especially within our 3 games before the break.

Possibly have to go back to the basics of the game, as they have been badly lacking also?
As we don’t even know if MoN is going to remain in place yet?
Then impossible to call, what the solutions are going to be imo?

But still say that bigger issues need to be addressed, before our attacking options, all the same?
