It’s no secret the that Celtic have held a long term interest in Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis and yesterday morning we reported on Celtic Shorts that the club had gone back in with another offer for the Lithuanian international…

It’s now been revealed that the ‘offer’ has been deemed too low by the Serie A side, although with our club.s track record when it comes to lowballing selling clubs, we shouldn’t be too surprised.
22 year old Gineitis was high on Martin O’Neill’s list of players when it came to replacing the outgoing Arne Engels, as he’s a player who possesses great physical attributes, as well as being the energetic presence we require in our midfield.

Martin O’Neill is an admirer of the 29 times capped Lithuanian international, and has asked the Celtic Park hierarchy to try and make a deal happen between the clubs. “Leave it to me,” Michael Nicholson possibly said.
However now Toro Goal claims the Serie A outfit knocked back an approach from their hoops counterparts as it did not come close to their asking price which is said to be close to £9million.
The outlet reports: “The potential arrival of Mandragora at Torino FC 906 is not linked to a possible departure of Gineitis.
“Torino wants a midfielder regardless, to replace Ilić. For the Lithuanian, there was an attempt by Celtic FC over the weekend, but the offer was deemed too low: without any raises, Gineitis stays at Toro.”

Martin O’Neill will be disappointed in seeing chances of securing the services one of his primary targets being scuppered, but he can console himself with the news that deals for two other identified midfield targets are almost close to completion.

19 year old Dutch youth international Joel van den Berg is poised to join from PSV while Danish midfield man Oliver Sorensen is also on the verge of a loan switch from Parma.

Starting to look like MoN is considering of changing the set up of our team imo?
Was looking like a squad getting formed on the preferred 4231 option MoN has used to date?
With the recent developments, especially regarding midfield players, is he now looking at a potential 343?
Already got 5 midfield options, taken that Hatate will be moving on?
2 more incoming, and still looking at another one?
8 midfield options seems like a very high number, to be having, within the current set up of our team imo?
Especially with a greater need for cover within the LB position, if the team shape was to remain the same, I would have thought?
Could this now, be related to the fitness issues of both AJ and Tierney within the current full backs position, in the roles MoN was looking for, within the current set up of our team?
Could be interesting to see how things develop before the window shuts imo?
