Scott Brown has delivered a brutal assessment of former Celtic assistant manager Peter Grant, admitting he would have pushed for a transfer had the coach remained at the club.

The former Hoops captain reflected on the turbulent final months of Tony Mowbray’s reign, explaining that Neil Lennon’s arrival transformed the atmosphere at Celtic Park and ultimately convinced him to stay in Glasgow.

Brown did not hold back when discussing Grant’s influence behind the scenes, offering a damning verdict on the former Scotland international’s coaching style and relationship with the squad.

Speaking on Open Goal, Brown said: “Lenny came in and we started winning games and the momentum changed from when Tony was there.

“I think if Tony and Peter Grant were still there, I’d have been away straight away.

“I had no time for Peter Grant whatsoever.”

Asked what lay behind his opinion, Brown replied: “Man management. Personal.

    “Personality? Zero.

“Tony, I got on alright. But Peter Grant, no.”

Brown also disclosed that Premier League clubs attempted to lure him away during his time at Celtic, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United making approaches.

He said: “After my second season at Celtic I got offered the chance to go down to Spurs. They put in a bid.

“Then just before Lenny came in, at the end of my first contract, Newcastle offered me a five-year deal to go down there.

“Imagine me, I’m bad enough in Glasgow, imagine how many nights out I’d have in Newcastle!”
