Former Celtic loan star Marcelo Saracchi has struck a permanent move from Argentine giants Boca Juniors to MLS side Houston Dynamo in a £950,000 deal, much to the sadness of many Celtic supporters…
The Uruguayan international has made the move at a time when Celtic are actively seeking a left back to complete with Kieran Tierney, and Saracchi who spent a successful spell in Glasgow last season had all the attributes to be the main challenger to KT for the left back berth.
What’s more, the 28 year old former RB Leipzig, and Levante star had struck a great affection with the club, and was more than willing to make the move to Glasgow on a more permanent basis.
Boca Juniors, in a club statement, killed off any hope of a Celtic return by confirming the Uruguayan international left-back had sealed the move to the American club.

It states: “Marcelo Saracchi has been permanently transferred to Houston Dynamo in the MLS.
“He arrived at Boca Juniors in 2023 from Levante in Spain. The defender played a total of 52 matches and scored four goals.
“Last season he was loaned to Celtic in Scotland, where he won two trophies. We wish Marcelo Saracchi much success in this new destination.”
Despite a season that was disrupted by a spell on the treatment table, Saracchi became a popular figure in the eyes of the supporters due to his determination, and ability, making 27 appearances as the club secured a domestic double in a season of mixed emotions.
In his last appearance for the club, Saracchi appeared as a substitute replacing Kieran Tierney in the 3-1 Scottish cup final win over Dunfermline Athletic.
He also appeared as a substitute the previous week, replacing that man KT yet again, and was instrumental in the pivotal second goal scored by Daizen Maeda, with the Uruguayans positive play opening up the Jambos rearguard, allowing Callum Osmand to assist Daizen in the crucial strike.
Sarrachi took to instagram following his final appearance in a hoops jersey, and gave a genuine heartfelt farewell.

The emotional post read :
“Dear Celtic fans, I’m writing this to say goodbye. We had an intense, beautiful year together where we achieved so many of our goals. My agent and I did absolutely everything within our power to make a return to Glasgow happen.
“I’m truly gutted that I won’t be able to continue at the club at this stage of my career. However, I know our paths will cross again in the future. I wish you all nothing but the best for what’s ahead. Thank you for everything.”

There was still some slight hope that a move would still come to fruition, but now it’s been killed completely stone dead, and leaves us all scratching our heads as to why the club didn’t do more to sign him permanently.

Celtic meanwhile head to Rugby Park today with Kieran Tierney as the only left back in the squad, and he is unlikely to play 90 minutes. On Monday night Alistair Johnston had to move over to the left hand side of the Celtic defence when KT went off.

Liam Scales is the best bet for left-back cover within the current squad but he is still suspended after picking up a two match ban through accumulating a series of booking towards the end of last season.
