Real Oviedo boss admits Haissem Hassan exit reality as Celtic close in

Real Oviedo manager Julian Calero appears to be preparing for life without Haissem Hassan as Celtic close in on the Egyptian winger.

The Hoops are believed to be in the final stages of negotiations over a move for the 24-year-old, with the overall package potentially reaching around £9 million.

Hassan has been on Celtic’s radar for some time, but his stock rose considerably following an eye-catching display for Egypt against Argentina at this summer’s World Cup.

There is now another significant indication that his spell in Spain is approaching its conclusion, with Hassan omitted from the Oviedo squad for this weekend’s friendly against Le Havre.

Calero, who recently took charge of the La Liga outfit, has acknowledged that Hassan could have played an important role in his plans but accepts there are several factors pushing the attacker towards the exit door.

Speaking to the Spanish media, Calero said via Glasgow Times: “We all know [Hassan], and of course he could have been a good fit…

“But we also have to consider the club’s finances, the player’s wishes, and offers from other clubs.

“We have a salary cap and we were aware that departures were necessary, and he was one of the possibilities.

“These are the circumstances, and I have to adapt.”

Hassan has attracted attention from elsewhere, with Marseille and clubs in Saudi Arabia credited with an interest in securing his signature.

However, Celtic now appear to have moved into pole position and are working towards completing a deal for the right-sided attacker.
