Speculation was rife today about Martin O’Neill being in hospital today, a wild rumour many of us would have thought and one that’s best ignored…

However it turned out to be true and as a result of this intense speculation Celtic has issued a short update, confirming that the legendary 74 year-old Celtic manager has indeed being in hospital today undergoing what the club describes as a short procedure and envisaging that Martin will remain in hospital for the next day or two.
The statement from Celtic, posted on the official Celtic FC website, reads as follows:
In response to speculation, we can confirm that Martin O’Neill has undergone a small procedure in hospital.
We would envisage Martin being released from hospital in the next day or two and on behalf of Martin, we would like to thank supporters for their kind wishes.
We would ask that the privacy of Martin and his family is respected.
Celtic’s next match is on Sunday down at Rugby Park but that should be the furthest thing from Martin’s mind at the moment and Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham can easily take the team and handle everything else in the meantime.
The entire Celtic support will wish Martin a speedy recovery and hope that if it is possible that he can return to lead the team whenever possible. However his health and well-being is 100% the top priority and he must put himself and his family first at this time.
All the best Martin. Get well soon!

I hope, and am sure, that Martin will recover well and bounce back very quickly. He’s a very healthy man for his age. Best wishes, Martin.
