Aiden McGeady believes Kasper Hogh delivered the perfect response to those who questioned his Celtic debut after firing a stunning hat-trick against Kilmarnock.
The Danish frontman produced a ruthless display at Rugby Park, completing his hat-trick inside the opening 35 minutes as the Scottish champions stormed to an emphatic 5-1 victory.
Hogh was at the heart of Celtic’s attacking dominance and deservedly departed Ayrshire with the match ball following a hugely impressive afternoon.
It was a significant turnaround from his first competitive appearance against Dundee, when the club-record arrival passed up several opportunities.
McGeady felt some of the reaction to that performance had been premature and was delighted to see Hogh demonstrate what he can offer after only his second outing for the Hoops.
Speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage, the former Celtic winger said: “He’s a really refreshing character. Today, I think he was fantastic.
“It wasn’t just his goals and his movement in the penalty box, he could have scored four or five, it was his hold-up play and his unselfish runs as well.
“I’m absolutely delighted that he’s managed to answer some critics after his first game. A lot of cause for optimism.”
James McFadden also believes there were legitimate areas for improvement following Hogh’s debut but insisted Sunday’s performance offered a much clearer indication of his goalscoring qualities.
McFadden added: “He’s new into the club. People maybe looked at him last week and said he really should have been doing better, but I’m sure he would have agreed.
“He’s reading the type of cross that’s coming in.
“The more they play together, the better the understanding will be and the more goals he’ll score.
“There’s no doubt he’s going to score goals.”
