Former Celtic skipper Scott Brown hit out at former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant, whom he worked under during the turbulent Tony Mowbray reign, describing him as having zero personality, and questioned his man-management skills in a very forthright interview on Open Goal…

Broony who joined Celtic from Hibs in a £4 million deal back in 2007, is the club’s most successful skipper in the modern era, and made a total of 616 appearances for the club, winning a whooping 22 major honours.

The Quadruple Treble winning captain even stated that he would have left the club had Peter Grant, who was Mowbray’s assistant, decided to stick around after the Englishman’s dismissal in 2010.

Peter Grant who made 483 appearances for Celtic in a 15 year playing career in the hoops, has now responded to Scott Brown’s unprovoked outburst, and did so in a measured and professional manner.

Speaking on Go Radio last night, Peter Grant said: “Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. I have absolutely no problem whatsoever, it doesn’t concern me in the least.

“I had a lot of criticism throughout my career so you’ve got to have a big backbone. Listen, I’d never tell anybody what to say or what to think of me. I have got a hell of a lot of friends who would say the opposite.

“But that’s life. I have no problem at all about that.”

Go Radio host Paul Cooney then asked Peter Grant if could remember anything specifically that Scott Brown could have been talking about.

Grant replied: “I’m trying to think how long ago it was I was at Celtic as a coach? 10 years, 15 years or something like that? I’ve not got that memory, he obviously has.

“It doesn’t concern me in the least. If it was Roy Aitken, Danny McGrain, Paul McStay, the great Tommy Burns, it’d maybe concern me a little bit more.”

Bringing his comments to a close, Grant insisted once again that he had no issue with Brown’s criticism. And he even insisted the only thing he could be certain of was that he would sleep well last night.

He said: “Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. I’ve never, ever been critical of somebody who has criticised me. That’s life. You’ve had plenty of criticism.

“If one thing, I will sleep well in my bed tonight. That’s for sure.”

This all seems rather unnecessary as it surely should to be regarded as water under the bridge. In every work place there are personality clashes and occasional conflicts but sometimes it’s perhaps better to let sleeping dogs lie.

There’s an awful lot of Celtic fans who held Scott Brown in high regard as being one of the greatast ever Celtic captains . Few of us knew about ” Brownie” , as a person but we know now . Scott Brown’s comments about Peter Grant were malicious and totally out of order . There is such a thing as discretion and decorum and Scott Brown has neither .
Scott Brown has demeaned himself and Celtic’s reputation ; he has sullied the name of Peter Grant who gave everything on and off the pitch and is still a Celtic legend . Sorry Brownie , you have opened your mouth and put your foot right in it . The next time you speak , think about what you are saying , ” The tongue is the chariot which carries the soul to Hell ” .
