An interesting transfer rumour surfaced late on Saturday night, when Italian journalist Nicolo Schira reported that Celtic were ready to submit a new bid for Torino star Gvidas Gineitis…
The established transfer journalist Schira, has around 424k followers, posted on his X account that we are preparing a bid for the 22 year old Lithuanian international, but before we get our hopes up, the most important factor in Schira’s post, is that Torino are asking for €14-15m, and it will equates to £11-12 million, casting doubts on the claims.
Celtic were of course linked with the 32 times capped Lithuanian international just as few weeks ago, so there could be something behind the claims, but the cynics among us won’t believe that we would sanction that sort of cash for a player, especially as we’ve just parted with a massive £11 million for Kasper Hogh.
Celtic will of course soon be in the money yet again when Arne Engels inevitably moves on, with the Belgian’s likely departure likely to be softened by a £20 million fee, and are more then capable of paying the reported fee demanded by Torino.
Gineitis is by all accounts a terrific player with huge potential, and is performing fantastically in the ultra competitive Serie A, but are the Celtic board willing to break the club’s transfer record for the second time in just a matter of weeks? Personally I doubt it but will be happy to be proved wrong.
Clearly Gineitis has the credentials Martin O’Neill is looking for. At 6ft 3in he’s a commanding presence in the middle of the park and is noted for his ability to breaking up play and regaining possession.
He’s also a terrific reader of the game, and his ability to pick a pass, as well as his all round energy make him very much the complete midfielder.
Let’s hope there’s truth to this one, but as always I’d urge a little caution until we get more reports coming through which you’ll be able to read on Celtic Shorts if or when they occur.
The price that Nicolo Schira has quoted seems to be on the high side for the player.

I would actually disagree, that such a signing is out of our reach imo?
If AJ and Engels are sold, then having something around 40M mark?
So at least 2 other statement signings will potentially be made with another midfielder, along with the wide attacking option?
A potential deal involving Hatate and Baur, will take care of one another imo?
Still could leave around 20M for 2 full backs and a keeper available, in order for ourselves to finish off our 25man European squad imo?
Personally couldn’t care less, if a profit is made during this window, as expecting it.
But if we get the stability, along with the quality factor in return, for potentially 2 seasons, at a realistic chance of a decent CL campaign?
Would be very satisfactory as an outcome for this window imo?
Don’t think such an outcome, would suit the collective all the same, but don’t see the board, leaving themselves wide open for them to become as relevant either?
We seen last season, that the wage budget could be expanded, with the amount of loan signings involved?
So to get that element tidied up moreso with permanent signing, would be a massive step in the right direction?
Totally different story, as to whether we can make the likes happen?
But still believe that it can be achieved, moreso than I actually thought a few months back, all the same imo?
