Haissem Hassan is on the cusp of joining Celtic. When the transfer is done and dusted, it will be time to sort out our midfield…
According to multiple reports, Egyptian World Cup star Haissem Hassan is on the verge of moving to Celtic, and like everyone else, I’ll only fully believe it when he is officially paraded as a Celtic player.
Hopefully a deal for the Egyptian World Cup star comes to fruition, as if and when Hassan becomes our third summer signing, he will give us some serious attacking options alongside the recently signed Kasper Hogh, and Camilo Duran.
Celtic can’t stop there however, and it’s imperative that the club adds more numbers to our squad, in particular when it comes to the middle of the park, with a goalkeeper and a back-up left back coming in too. That incidentally will probably be Greg Taylor.
Celtic’s attention must turn to the middle of the park
Arne Engels will inevitably move on this summer, as will Reo Hatate. and with the recent departure of Paulo Bernardo, that will leave us with worryingly short on numbers, with only Callum McGregor, Benjamin Nygren, Luke McCowan, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to call upon in the midfield area.
Our midfield lacks not only a steeliness about it, we also lack someone who possesses great energy. Callum McGregor is no longer in his prime, and the same can be said of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Benjamin Nygren, and Luke McCowan whilst still in their prime, aren’t exactly the quickest of players, so naturally we need to add ideally a couple of new additions with those qualities in that area.
Middle of the park has been our Achilles heel
Our lack of energy in the middle of the park has been our Achilles heel for quite some time now, and it’s been a major factor in our poor performances over the last couple of years, particularly in Europe.
Yes we need another goalkeeper, and a back up left back, but on the whole our defence isn’t that bad.
Our attacking options have been boosted by the arrival of Kasper Hogh, Camilo Duran, and hopefully Haissem Hassan, so that just leaves us with the midfield area to tend to.
Our main prerogative as of now, should be adding numbers to our fragile, vulnerable and soon to be weakened midfield.

Agreed that our midfield areas has to be eventually addressed?
It still remains unclear as to whether MoN, actually wants to change Engels and Hatate, before the CL qualification games?
We aren’t in a position to let either Engels or Hatate go, until confirmation that the replacements are incoming?
Even then, there is only 1 game available, for such a partnership with calmac, to get up and running, before those CL qualification games?
With those games in mind?
Would it be to big of a risk, to put an untested new partnership, in such an important area, within our team set up as it currently stands?
Personally think so myself?
But for MoN, he has to consider if Engels and Hatate will have the right mindset for such big matches, especially if they are looking at our exit door?
So a potential argument either way, upon the decision that MoN has to weigh up at present?
Maybe that decision could become clearer tomorrow, with the performance levels that get produced imo?
Still think MoN, trust’s Engels more so than Hatate, as a partner to calmac?
Don’t believe the OX and calmac partnership works whatsoever imo?
Nygren and McCowan might well be regarded as our attacking midfield roles, but still think Duran might also be able to play that role in time?
But wouldn’t regard them as suitable partners for Calmac within our central midfield areas either?
So potentially looking at 2 midfielders to be added still?
New partnerships will be needed to get formed, but hopefully more and better options created, in order to get our midfield areas functioning better than last season imo?
Somehow, don’t think such a potential plan, will be completed before these CL qualification games, all the same imo?
