Green Brigade brilliantly call out Celtic board on Champions League playoff disasters…
After the disastrous defeat in Linz on Tuesday evening, we returned to Celtic Park to face Falkirk on domestic duty.
While the crowd was fully behind the manager and his players, the Celtic board were quite rightly taken to task by the Green Brigade who captured the overall feeling of the entire support, as they highlighted their anger at the Celtic Park hierarchy for another costly calamity in the Champions League.
Our crushing defeat to LASK wasn’t only a major embarrassment after being four goals ahead, it also meant missing out on a potential £40 million payday, and the chance to once again compete with Europe’s elite.
The majority of that blame lays solely at the hands of our incompetent hierarchy, whose failings on the recruitment side of things are the biggest contributor in our European failure year after year after year.
Finishing the game with a side consisting of players who aren’t of the required quality for that level of football was the main complaint, and justifiably so. And no blame should be laid at the feet of the Luke McCowan, Anthony Ralston and Dane Murray, three Scottish players playing their part in fulfilling the UEFA homegrown requirement.
The North Curve brilliantly called out just that yesterday afternoon, and Tuesday’s calamity wasn’t the only focal point, but numerous other examples of the Celtic board’s flawed strategy and gross incompetence that’s cost us dearly in European competition throughout the years.
The GB produced a banner which perfectly highlighted the negligence that Dermot Desmond his cronies have committed in the past decade, costing the club a fortune in the process. Whilst also ridiculing the Celtic Chief Executive Michael Nicholson’s preachings of ‘world class in everything we do’. Someone should ask him to give some examples. The squad? Nope. The stadium? No chance! The engagement with fans? You must be flaming joking…
The protest banners read:
“World class embarrassment. Legia, Maribor, Malmo, AEK Athens, Cluj, Ferencvaros, Midtjylland, Kairat, LASK.”
It’s of course a reference to Celtic’s costly early exits from Europe’s elite competition against sides we should be more than capable of overcoming. The lost revenue will total over £200m, an incredible sum to lose out on from a Board who actually think that they are world class performers.
All of these clubs mentioned in the Green Brigade banner yesterday have one thing in common. They all operate on a much lower budget than Celtic.
That’s all down to our incompetent custodians, and once again they have been called out in a very public way by the Celtic supporters in the North Curve.

“Brilliant”, or pathetic?
Proudly say, yes, a Club like no Other, shamefully say, yes, but also directors like no other. Wit I do not get, is how billionaires cannot get 6 years of failure at over 50 millions a miss with ticket sales and merchandise added to the Euro riches = over 300 millions not in the bank? Above the players look gutted, the directors simply look a wee bit embarrassed. Also the money spent on this seasons players are less than what we earnt from Engels and Maeda, plus others naturally and to make up the difference we have now down another turn-around and are looking to sell Hatate to fund any newbies who do not mind missing out on the Champions League. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail, which means having a fit, hungry squad with newbies already on board and sitting back and enjoy, not inadequate results that holds us back year in, year out. I do understand waiting on recruiting can save a lot, but losing means we lose a whole lot more including financially. Again I do not get it.
Really? You honestly consider this as “brilliantly calling out the board”?
The only people they embarrassed here was themselves!
It’s high time these morons were banned for life.
Using the biggest stage in Scottish football as their podium because they know they have a worldwide audience for their political protestations only proves that there isnta real Celtic Supporter among them!
If they REALLY want to stop damaging the club, they would STOP this and get behind them.
But they have no intelligence. So they won’t. They need to be banned by the club. PERMANENT bans.
Oh shut up, the board have systematically failed year after year, we only qualify by accident.
