Everton consider signing Alistair Johnston alternative

Everton are reportedly considering a move for Ridle Baku as an alternative to Alistair Johnston. The Canadian International is a massive player for Celtic and the Scottish Champions are eager to keep the right-back.

Everton have made an approach to Celtic for Johnston but thus far no deal has been agreed.

According to The Athletic, David Moyes’ side are considering 28-year-old Baku as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

Celtic will be braced for a further approach for Johnston, not just from the Merseyside outfit. Fulham have been linked with a move of their own and the World Cup display from AJ will not have gone unnoticed.

The platform to the Premier League should be a major selling point for Celtic in convincing players to join. That means that when they impress and succeed at Celtic, they are allowed to move on when the timing and price align. Unfortunately, the difficulty appears to be securing deals for their replacements to ensure a seamless transition.

West Ham are interested in Arne Engels with a deal likely to be concluded to take the Belgian to London for £25m. After Daizen Maeda departed, Celtic will be eager not to lose yet another of their top performers.
