Celtic’s European results this season could have major implications beyond the current campaign, with the Hoops already well placed in the race for a potential automatic Champions League spot in 2027/28.

An early coefficient table has Celtic sitting eighth on 41.000 points, narrowly behind Rangers on 42.750, while Danish pair Copenhagen and Midtjylland are also within three points.
However, the picture is more favourable than the standings initially suggest.
The automatic league-phase place is available only to domestic champions who would otherwise enter the Champions League through the champions path.
That means Celtic would not need to overhaul every club currently above them.
Should Celtic win the Scottish Premiership, their position in this particular ranking would become irrelevant, while Rangers would automatically drop out of the race regardless of their coefficient.
The same applies in Denmark, where Copenhagen and Midtjylland cannot both qualify through this route as only one can be crowned domestic champion.
Olympiacos, Shakhtar Donetsk, Bodo/Glimt and Ferencvaros currently occupy the leading positions, but they too would only remain in contention if they win their respective leagues.
For Celtic, it means every European result this season could prove significant, with their coefficient potentially providing an important safety net in the race to reach the 2027/28 Champions League.
