The draw for the Europa League has been made with Celtic drawn against two Portuguese opponents, plus one from France, Spain, Belgium, Hungary, Turkey and Cyprus…
Celtic has avoided the likes of English, German and Italian opposition, any perhaps it’s worth adding the Austrian sides to that list too after the events in Linz on Tuesday night.
Celtic will face Marseille home and Benfica away from pot one in the Europa League draw which has just taken place in Monaco.
From pot two our opponents will be Hungary’s Ferencvaros at Celtic Park and an away trip to Belgium to take on Union SG aka Royale Union Saint-Gilloise who have an outstanding home record in European football.
Then from pot three Martin O’Neill will have a reunion with Spanish outfit Celta Vigo at Parkhead – the gaffer will remember them from the road to Seville – and an away trip to Cyprus to face Omonia. Finally the two opponents from pot four will be Turkish opponent in Besiktas at home and another trip to Portugal to play Torreense.
The dates and order of fixtures will be confirmed by at least Sunday for these Europa League matches.
A decent draw for Celtic with plenty of interesting fixtures and a little glamour thrown in too, especially with the two pot one opponents.
As for our chances we’ll have to wait and see what the transfer window brings over the next few days. As things stand at the moment we’re well short in quality and quantity, but Michael Nicholson will know that and will be working around the clock to get the Celtic squad up to the required standard by the start of next week.

A decent enough draw imo?
And would be very disappointed if we weren’t to reach the knockout phase at least?
That has to be our aim to finally start winning these knockout phase matches in European football?
Not overly bothered by the CL
failure, as way too much on show during that tie, to suggest that we could be a decent CL team this season imo?
Still prefer the prospect of winning matches in European football, far more than being on the end of humiliation results within CL football, for which there has been plenty over the recent enough years?
We went into this window as a team in transition, especially for European football?
The moaning since Tuesday night has been embarrassing and ridiculous imo?
This season europa league campaign will determine moreso, if we are going to be a decent CL team in the making, especially as last season we were nowhere near the likes.
So the prospect of 2 Glasgow Derby, along with the start of a europa league campaign, all within the same week.
3 different competitions all before the international break, will determine where our team and overall squad are at imo?
Everything beforehand, is nothing more than constant moaning, for the sake of moaning imo?
