Scott Brown backing three-horse title race again this season

Scott Brown is backing another three-horse title race this season, in the lead-up to the new campaign kicking-off this August…

The former Celtic captain was speaking at the Scottish Open golf pro-am lately and gave his thoughts on how next season will unfold.

Brown was no stranger to title races back in his early days at Celtic Park before he was captain, when the now liquidated Rangers Football Club battled against the midfielder and his club. That would be short-lived though, as the money David Murray was using wasn’t even his or the club’s, as they sought about ripping off the taxpayer through underhanded and unlawful means.

For a period of time, Celtic would walk to the title without any issues as the challenge from domestic competition in Scotland just wasn’t there, prompting a period of managed decline from our principal shareholder and CEO under Norwegian coach Ronny Deila, where we fell to an unacceptable level, embarrassed by minnows on a regular basis in European competition.

Last year was a sea change though, in terms of the title race going all the way to the wire and having a decider televised on the last day. Martin O’Neill and Celtic saw off bitter Derek McInnes and his moaning Hearts side though that day 3-1, to clinch the Scottish Premiership and leave the Edinburgh side empty-handed.

Brown reckons we could be in for a repeat of last year, where towards the end of the campaign it looked like either Celtic, Hearts or the Rangers could win it, before Danny Rohl’s bottlers collapsed.

“I think it’s going to be a three-legged race yet again,” Brown said, speaking at the Scottish Open golf pro-am (via BBC Football). “I think Hearts have been an actual delight for Scottish football. They’ve done really, really well. I thought Derek did a fantastic job and Martin’s come in at the right point in time.

“If Martin was there for the whole time, Celtic win the league, nice and easy, but Del’s went to Rangers now and he’s a very, very good man-manager and he brings out the best of people.

“Looking at what he does and how he deals with his team, he’ll bring in some more Scottish people, English-based people, that understand the club and the culture as well, which, to be fair, I think Celtic’s done really well over the years,” our former captain commented.
