Rayo Vallecano’s Nobel Mendy is on Celtic’s radar, as the club prepares for a big summer transfer window despite being frustratingly slow out the stalls…
Recruitment will be key this close season, as Martin O’Neill needs to properly fix a squad that is desperately in need of repair and restoration.
Plenty of links have appeared in recent weeks, as rumours continue to surface about incomings and outgoings, with several names ready left the club and more expected to do so as the transfer window rumbles on towards it’s conclusion in early September.
Most, if not all of these links have some substance of Celtic interest involved and the stories then appear as journalists are contacted by agents looking for information to get out there for whatever the reason.
There’s been some criticism of fan media sites reporting on these links as frustration grows.what doesn’t happen is that writers make up stories themselves.
Anyway, Vallecano defender Mendy, who is 21-years-old, had been thought to be close to joining our city rivals and third-placed finishers last season, the Rangers, only for it to fall through at the last minute, when Mendy decided to see sense and join Vallecano from Real Betis.
The Senagalese stopper must now be thanking his lucky stars at that great escape, now he has a potential opportunity to join the Scottish 5IAR Champions.
According to journalist, Matteo Moretto, Celtic are set to enter the race for the powerful centre-back’s signature, with our Europa League opponents from last season VfB Stuttgart and 2022 tournament winners Eintracht Frankfurt also in the running for Mendy.
Whether or not the Bhoys will entertain a bidding war for his talents remains to be seen. What is clear is that multiple positions need filled this summer window and the quicker the better.

This one definitely fits the Martin O’Neill profile though…

Lost count at this stage, to the amount of CB we are supposed to be interested in?
This despite ourselves already having 5 under contract at present?
So why the need for another CB?
Even if a back 4 remains in place again next season, it would usually consist of 3CB within a 20man SPFL match day squad?
That’s been in existence for the past number of seasons already.
And the 5th CB is usually a loan signing, with little to no game time available, unless we have numerous injuries in the CB position?
At present, MoN is only looking at rocki as a player at present, so it doesn’t make any sense for ourselves to be looking at established CB whatsoever imo?
Not unless MoN is considering setting our team up with the 3CB option in our defensive set up?
Even at that, Tierney could be considered as another option, bringing ourselves up to 6 potential options available, even in the 3CB set up?
Could potentially make the same claim for AJ also?
But you would prefer both moreso in the wing back role, if the 3CB is MoN preferred option next season imo?
Regardless of whether MoN is looking at going with a 3 or 4 at the back?
The centre of defence, wouldn’t be a priority, that needs to be addressed imo?
Especially with readily options available at present?
Not unless something is going on, that we are totally unaware of yet imo?
