Mika Baur pushing hard for SC Paderborn exit

The latest revelation is in regard to the on going transfer saga involving German midfielder Mika Baur, which has now taken yet another twist as it’s been reported that the SC Paderborn starlet has handed in a transfer request amid the on-off negotiations with Celtic.

Mika Baur wants to join Celtic and he is now actively pursuing an exit from SC Paderborn, who if they refuse will be left with an unhappy player going into the final year of his contract. They could always ask Celtic for some advice on want-away players and a candid but truthful response would leave the newly promoted Bundesliga club fearing the worst.

Celtic require midfield additions as double departures expected

Our midfield is an area that’s in desperate need to strengthening, especially with the inevitable departures of Arne Engels, and Reo Hatate, meaning that Mika Baur would just be one of a few needed to bolster our ranks in the middle of the park.

But frustratingly for Martin O’Neill and the supporters, repeated offers have been kicked into touch as the German side hold out for what they reckon their prized asset is fully worth. There is of course nothing wrong with that but with the sum of money relatively small between the asking price and the sum offered by Celtic then wouldn’t it be simple just to meet in the middle and get the deal over the line.

The best outcome for all parties

That would seem to be the best outcome for all parties, although Celtic will be left thinking that they have been a little too much while Baur a justify the increase by his performances for the 5IAR Scottish Champions.

Baur was one of the driving forces behind Paderborn’s promotion, and the club want to hold onto him in a bid to stay in the top flight, even stating they would rather lose him for nothing next summer than sell him for less than his valuation.

But having an unhappy, want-away player going into such a hugely challenging season for the German minnows isn’t perhaps the smartest outcome.

“Mika Baur has requested that Paderborn facilitate his transfer to Celtic”

According to journalist Christian Vaquero, Baur has indicated his desire to move to the Scottish champions, with the reporter posting on Spanish on social media channel x:  “Mika Baur has requested that Paderborn facilitate his transfer to Celtic. The German club won’t accept £4million and want to negotiate. The Celtic-Baur agreement is TOTAL.”

But Baur and his agent know they can twist the club’s arm by upping the ante by making his desire to leave SC Paderborn clear, believing that the German club will be unwilling to hang on to a player who doesn’t want to be at the club.

Player power and the problem with keeping want-aways

If true, then this time player power will go in Celtic’s favour. The coming days should tell us more and there’s still a chance that we could see Mika Baur at Paradise on Monday night for the Flag Day opener against Dundee.

The problem here is that we dont know what their valuation is. Its speculation that there is only a £300k difference.

If that is the case then I’m confident an agreement will be reached. If its a lot more then there is a problem

The flat fee was £4m so the add-ons and bonuses would have made up the £300k.
Now Buar has put in a transfer request which means his waiving his 10% (£400k) of the transfer fee to push through the transfer.
Paderborn publicly said there valuation was £4.3m, we made our offer (£4m basic) and were given permission to speak to Buar and his agent (which personal terms were agreed) and now Buar has put in his transfer request. Paderborn haven’t denied that they’ve been offered £4m (basic) by Celtic they’ve only said they won’t sell him on the cheap but when a player and his agent turn round and put in a transfer request (meaning they loss out on £400k) that usually points to where they believe the problem is.

For goodness sake pay the extra k240 to Paderborn and get him in so he can fit in properly and. If we qualify you’ll be quids in,I wish the bean counters would realise sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate

Going to need midfielders as Bernardo isn’t interested and Engels and Hatate want out.

    4. Tony on July 29, 2026 5:05 pm

I don’t think that Engels and Hatate leaving is an inevitability. If teams so not pay Celtics price they won’t be going .
