Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has said that the club are making inroads into making additions to the squad. The Irishman revealed that Celtic would make their first signing of the new season, a £6m deal to sign Duran from Qarabag but that more work would be required.

With the Colombian Striker currently undergoing his medical under the watchful eye of Celtic physio Tim Williamson, Celtic played out a 1-1 draw against Shelbourne in Dublin with no new signings on the pitch. Duran will join the up with his teammates in Portugal, alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who agreed an extension but O’Neill knows that more signings are needed.

Speaking after the game per Record Sport, O’Neill admitted that recruitments were needed.

“Well, absolutely. We definitely know. We have been making inroads into it, like everything else.

“Sometimes you get thwarted with things, sometimes it’s not, but yeah, we need a number of players still.”

Marcelo Saracchi and Kelechi Iheanacho’s futures appear up in the air. Both players are eager to return to Paradise for the new season and both would have roles to play. However, no deals appear to have been agreed as of yet despite looking as if they may be straight forward to achieve.
