Wilfried Nancy’s hopes of taking charge at Strasbourg appear to have taken a significant hit, with Kjetil Knutsen now emerging as the frontrunner for the Ligue 1 vacancy.
The two coaches were both linked with the Celtic job last December before Nancy ultimately got the nod, although his spell in the role lasted just 33 days before coming to an end.
Since then, the Frenchman has been keen to secure a return to Ligue 1 and has previously been mentioned in connection with Lorient and Nice jobs.
However, Strasbourg, who operate under the BlueCo ownership model alongside Chelsea, now look set to appoint Knutsen instead.
According to L’Equipe, discussions between Strasbourg and the Bodo/Glimt boss are at an advanced stage, with an agreement said to be closer than ever. If completed, it would end Knutsen’s eight-year tenure in Norway, where he has overseen 376 matches.
The 56-year-old has earned widespread recognition for Bodo/Glimt’s remarkable European exploits.
His side famously dismantled Jose Mourinho’s Roma, knocked out Porto and Lazio en route to a Europa League semi-final, and comfortably defeated Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic in 2022.
Last season brought another memorable continental run, with Bodo/Glimt recording victories over Atletico Madrid and Manchester City to reach the knockout stages before eliminating Inter Milan, last year’s finalists.
