Former Celtic academy star Daniel Church has been forced into early retirement in a bitterly disappointing blow for the player…

The 25-year-old revealed the awful news via his social media pages on Instagram and x where he confirmed that he is not longer able to continue playing the beautiful game, in a sad update for all.

The ex-Hoops left-back spent most of his footballing life at Paradise, joining when he was just a youngster and spending over a decade wearing the green and white jersey.

Despite never managing to play a first-team game for the club, he revealed that was just grateful for the wonderful memories it had bequeathed him, in a humbling message to his followers.

Although Church did leave Celtic back in 2020 and played domestically in Scotland during the intervening years until now, those injuries have built up to the point where it is no longer sustainable for him to go on playing the game he loves, in what is a crushing blow for someone who is only in their mid-twenties as an athlete and footballer more specifically.

Not the ending I ever imagined, but I’ll always be thankful for the journey.

Taking to social media to reveal the deflating news, the former Bhoy wrote:

“Football has been a massive part of my life for as long as I can remember.

“After overcoming setback after setback, I always told myself I’d never give up. No matter how many injuries came my way, I’d keep fighting to get back on the pitch. Unfortunately, this time the decision has been taken out of my hands, and I’ve been forced to retire much earlier than I ever wanted.

“I’m incredibly grateful for everything football has given me- the memories, the friendships, and the lessons I’ll carry for life.

Sometimes life takes you down a different path than the one you planned. You can’t always control where it leads, but you can choose how you respond.”

I’m sure we’ll all feel the same in wishing Daniel all the very best for the future.

Once a Celt, always a Celt!
