It’s no secret that Celtic are in the market for a new number one, and in recent weeks we’ve been credited with concrete interest in Croatian Dinko Horkas, and German Tjark Ernst with both players camps said to have been sounded out about a move to the 5IAR Scottish Champions…

I’m sure both players have are decent enough, but for me we should be going for a man I’ve written about on a regular basis on The Celtic Star and now on our new home at Celtic Shorts, and that is Croatian number one Dominik Livakovic.

Livakovic is a truly class act who is fully proven at the highest level, and he showed that yet again in his four match outing with his nation at the World Cup. Croatia were eliminated in the last 32, but only just by Portugal.

At only 31, the man who spent the second half of last season on loan at Dinamo Zagreb, is relatively young in goalkeeping terms, and would only cost around £5 million due to being out of favour at current club Fenerbahce, who shouldn’t be too hard to deal with regarding any proposed move.

When it comes to club football, Livakovic has also played the majority of this career at the top level, winning titles, and cups in his native Croatia, whilst also playing regularly in European football. He’s a class act, and he’s experienced, and he’s very much the man we need to occupy the gloves at. Celtic Park.

Whilst both Horkas and Tjark might be viewed as more ‘up and coming’ talents, and have their own separate attributes, they don’t posses the ability or experience of Livakovic, nowhere near it to be honest.

So for the umpteenth time, I’m writing about how and why we should go all out for Dominik Livakovic. He’s not only talented and experienced, but more importantly in the eyes of the club, he’s now also affordable.

What a signing he would be!

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Shorts colleagues.

Agreed that it would be a great player potentially to be regarded as our 1st choice keeper?
But in reality, believe it would be to much of a longshot to even be considered as a possible option imo?

We won’t be going all out for any player, who isn’t interested in joining our club?
To much of this automatically thinking, that every player we are rumoured with, is jumping at the chance in joining ourselves?
It’s becoming clearer, that the quality factor along with the wage demands, is becoming a harder sell with SPFL football on offer imo?
Only the prospect of CL football is on offer at present, and with the coefficient dropping like a brick, then the prospect of European football, is dropping with a growing qualification process involved, just to get into European competitions, as things stand?

Personally believe Sinisalo will be kept as our no1 keeper now imo?
The strongest partnership with reliability, usually exists between the keeper and CBs? Even moreso when playing out from the back, and defending set pieces?

We already have 2 keepers with 4 CB in place within our pre season training camp at present? So therefore wouldn’t say MoN is in panic mode regarding the situation, especially as we don’t know yet, upon how he intends to set up our defensive set up either?
And that’s with 4 defensive options missing at present also?

So potentially valuable time lost, if any huge changes were going to be introduced into our defensive set up imo, especially involving the keeper and CBs?
Was hardly a secure area of our team set up last season, with the amount of changes involved, on a regular basis also?
Not an area within a team set up, that any manager is looking to make constant changes in either, especially with the reliability factor involved, and hoping that 1 of the 5 subs available, doesn’t have to be introduced into those positions during game time either?

Therefore, think that the decision might have already been made, that Sinisalo will remain as our 1st choice keeper?
How much competition Doohan offers, when he is still going to be regarded as a homegrown quota requirement player, within the forming of our 25man European squad, is still relatively unknown, to be considered as our 2nd choice keeper?
So more likely that we could be looking for that no2 keeper role at present, to actually challenge Sinisalo moreso than Doohan is able to imo?
So a younger 2nd choice keeper could be in the offering imo?
