Celtic’s ‘club signing’ striker Shin Yamada has left the club on yet another loan spell, joining Belgian side Oud-Heverlee Leuven on a deal that runs until the end of the upcoming season. This kicks the can further down the road on an embarrassing episode for the football club.
The Japanese striker was signed last summer from J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale for a fee of £1.5 million, but needless to say, he’s failed to make an impact, with this current loan spell yet another indicator that he doesn’t have a future at the club.
You don’t have to hold a high level of intelligence to know that the signing of the Japanese striker was forced upon Brendan Rodgers, as the desperation for a centre forward was bordering on ridiculous.
Kasper Dolberg? Mathias Kvistgaarden? David Strelec? No, we got an average striker from the J1 league.
Then to make matters much more embarrassing, we turned to free agent and former Brendan pupil Kelechi Iheancaho hours after the transfer window slammed shut.
The fact that Shin failed to nail down a regular place not just in the first team, but even in match-day squads, whether that was under Brendan Rodgers, Martin O’Neill, and even Wilfried Nancy tells you that he’s very much a player who didn’t and still doesn’t posses the necessary attributes to make the grade at Celtic.
He also failed to make an impressive at German second tier side Preussen Munster during a loan spell in the second half of last season, being limited to just seven appearances, and scoring just one goal.
Shin’s signing was nothing more than yet another moment of meddling from the incompetent shysters who proclaim to run our club. The sheer desperation to save a few quid is staggering, and all they are doing is harming the club.
Shin Yamada is a half decent footballer, and I’m sure he’s a nice enough guy, but he is not good enough to play for Celtic, in the same way those who sanctioned his signing aren’t good enough to run our football club.
