Celtic-linked striker Kasper Dolberg is reportedly discussing a potential return to Denmark, with Midtjylland holding talks over a possible transfer.
The Danish international was heavily linked with the Hoops during last summer’s transfer window and was viewed as the player lined up to replace Adam Idah following his departure.
Despite Brendan Rodgers’ desire to have a replacement secured, Idah’s exit went through before any agreement for Dolberg could be completed. A move ultimately collapsed after Ajax stepped in to sign the forward instead.
The Eredivisie side paid around €10 million to bring Dolberg back to the club where he first rose to prominence, but the transfer ultimately failed to deliver.
Midtjylland sporting director Kristian Bach Bak has now revealed to Viaplay Sport News that discussions are underway with the 27-year-old over a possible switch.
Dolberg has not featured in Danish domestic football since leaving Silkeborg as a teenager to begin his career abroad.
His failed move to Celtic became one of the defining stories of the club’s disastrous summer transfer window, a window that most definitely contributed to Brendan Rodgers’ departure.
Since returning to Ajax, the striker has struggled to make an impact, finding the net only three times across 22 appearances in all competitions.
The deal also proved costly behind the scenes at Ajax, with reports suggesting sporting director Danny Blind’s exit was influenced in part by criticism surrounding Dolberg’s signing.
