Celtic opened their pre-season training schedule with a 1-1 draw against Shelbourne FC in Dublin. The Scottish Champions kicked off their preparations for the new campaign with a fairly uneventful meeting at Tolka Park as Martin O’Neill got minutes in the legs of his squad.

Despite not being the most exciting game given the stage of the pre-season, there were dramatic scenes towards the end as Harry Wood and Shin Yamada both found the net from the spot in the closing stages.

Despite Arne Engels being on the pitch, Shin took the penalty and coolly netted to ensure a draw.

Pre-season is largely an opportunity to get minutes in the legs of players as well of blooding new players into the first team. However, this game saw the return of CCV after a lengthy injury layoff.

Celtic interim Chairman Brian Wilson was spotted in attendance with major shareholder Dermot Desmond, both will be urged by Martin to step up efforts in the transfer window and deliver the quality that the manager requires. Duran is expected to join from Qarabag but more players will be required to help take Celtic up a gear after last season.
