Josh Clarke has joined Doncaster Rovers after a proposed permanent switch to Partick Thistle unexpectedly broke down.
The goalkeeper became a free agent this summer following the expiration of his Celtic contract and had looked set to remain at Firhill after a successful loan spell last season.
Clarke established himself as Thistle’s first-choice goalkeeper as the Jags finished runners-up in the Scottish Championship, prompting the club to move for a permanent deal. Reports suggested he had agreed a pre-contract in February to extend his stay.
However, those plans now appear to have changed with Doncaster Rovers snapping up the highly-rated goalkeeper.
The move represents a significant change of direction for Clarke, who has also earned recognition at international level after recently being included in the senior Northern Ireland squad for friendly matches against Guinea and France, although he remained an unused substitute on both occasions.
While Clarke heading for England, fellow Celtic loanee Ben McPherson will remain with Partick Thistle for the upcoming campaign. New manager Mark Wilson has spoken highly of the full-back after an impressive spell in Maryhill last season.
