Danish football icons Michael Laudrup and Preben Elkjaer have both backed Kasper Hogh to develop into one of Europe’s leading forwards…
Celtic have completed the signing of the Bodo/Glimt frontman in a deal understood to be worth £11 million plus performance-related add-ons.
Hogh has attracted glowing endorsements from some of Denmark’s most iconic football figures, with former Barcelona and Real Madrid playmaker Laudrup convinced the 25-year-old has the attributes to succeed at a higher level.
Laudrup said via The Herald: “There’s no doubt Kasper Hogh is going to be an important player for Denmark for many years to come.
“He’s a striker in form and is full of confidence. I like his style of play and I am certain he could do it in a far higher level of league than Norway.”
Former Denmark striker Elkjaer, remembered by Scottish supporters for scoring the winner against Scotland at the 1986 World Cup, also believes Hogh’s game extends well beyond goalscoring.
He said: “It’s not just the goals he has scored – Kapser’s all-round play has impressed me.
“He manages to bring other players into the game by his style of play.
“It’s not been an easy path for him – he had to work his way up and played for a few clubs in Denmark.
“But this season, I believe he is one of the best strikers in Europe.”
Hogh earned his maiden senior Denmark call-up earlier this year and featured in his country’s World Cup play-off defeat to the Czech Republic.
National team head coach Riemer has also praised the forward’s impact, pointing to his performances against elite European opposition as proof of his quality.
Riemer said: “What he has been able to do, not just in terms of performance, but also in terms of product – is goals and assists against the absolute best in Europe, and not just once, but time and time again.
“He scored against Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Sporting Lisbon.
“Additionally, he has made plenty of assists too.
“He is a player who has removed all doubts about his capabilities.”
