Daizen’s earned his move, Celtic just have to maximise transfer fee

Fees of £15 million have been mentioned, but we may have to be realistic

What’s a realistic price for Daizen Maeda? Perhaps we’ll get £15million. However we’ll be doing well if we got over £10 million…

There’s speculation that Daizen Maeda will soon be the subject of a bid from the EPL, most notably Brentford, and Fulham who are rumoured to be preparing bids for the Japanese international.

Like every other Celtic supporter, I don’t want Daizen to leave, but we need to be realistic and prepare ourselves for his departure, as it’s something we’ve all known about for quite some time.

The only thing to hope for now is that the club receive a decent fee for a player who is a vital part of our squad, one who was instrumental in our dramatic double win last season.

Last year or the year before, I’d have said a price of £20 million minimum would be the marker for Daizen’s signature, but with his age and contract situation, I’d say we’d be doing well if we got anything over £10 million for his signature.

Perhaps Celtic and the successful suitor will meet in the middle to add £15m to the PLC coffers that hopefully finds its way into Martin O’Neill’s transfer piggybank (rather than war-chest).

Daizen who will be 29 in October, has just one year remaining of his current contract, so the ball is firmly in the court of the player and his agents regarding the entire situation.

The club of course could dig their heels, and keep the player until his contact expires next year, but that does no one any good, as last year’s debacle surrounding Daizen all but proves. It would also be entirely unfair to Daizen if he as expected expresses a wish to leave Celtic after four and an half years.

Fees of £15 million have been mentioned, but we may have to be realistic, and with bidding clubs knowing the full situation of Daizen’s contract situation, and his desire to move on, the bidding will most likely start in the £6-8 million bracket, and probably won’t exceed the £10 million mark.

I could be wrong of course, but I can’t see it. The best we can hope for is a decent fee, which will hopefully be reinvested in a quality replacement, as Daizen will leave a massive gap in our already ailing squad.

What I am sure about is that no Celtic supporter will grudge Daizen his move to a bigger league. He will leave with our love and respect for everything he has done for Celtic.

Personally think that your fee is to low imo?
Totally understand the logic and very reasonable at that?

Always was in the 50/50 category as to whether Maeda, could actually produce within the EPL?
With his contributions possibly the biggest factor for ourselves winning the last 2 league titles, his own profile as a player has grown hugely?
But moreso, his performances during the world cup, would have certainly caught the eye, of plenty of potential clubs imo?
So not surprised that EPL clubs have taken an interest, this despite ourselves not having a great record of producing players, who can succeed within the EPL?

I actually do believe Maeda could do well now, within the EPL environment?
So therefore, believe a 20M price placed upon him at present, isn’t totally unreasonable at present imo?
Like anything within the market, doesn’t mean that we would receive such a fee, but should reduce the number of nonsense bids?
Only seems like ourselves operate within the nonsense bids for players, but won’t entertain the likes being done to ourselves?

This is where Nicholson let’s himself so badly down at this time of year imo?
Setting realistic price for our players, even if slightly higher than expected. And in return making sensible and serious bids for players. Shouldn’t be that hard of a starting point within negotiations, but he doesn’t seem to be able to even get that right imo?

Sorry, but I think you are wrong.

I expect a fee in the region of €15-18m for Daizen. He goes with all our best wishes.

An impossible act to follow IMO

I am also in the camp of expecting and wanting far more than £10m.
Even with 1 year remaining, and the player wanting to go, he’s still our player. A player with CL and World Cup goalscoring exploits, plus a unique selling point in his speed, stamina, and pressing ability. Plus he can play across the front 3 positions.
If I were selling Daizen to multiple bidders, I’d be telling them that the bidding starts at £20m.
That’s a steal for a player of his calibre*, especially in EPL terms.
      (*don’t mention the miskicks)
