Former Celtic hero, now popular pundit Chris Sutton has urged the club to back Martin O’Neill in the summer transfer market, by handing him a significant war-chest…
With key players such as Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda, and Arne Engels looking likely to move on, and bids rumoured to be heading the way of players such as Alistair Johnston, and Benjamin Nygren, it’s a matter of urgency that Celtic will need to bring in at least five quality players to plug the possible gaps.
That’s just a minimum figure, as Kasper Schmeichel has retired, with loan accusations Julian Araujo (Bournemouth), Marcelo Saracchi (Boca Juniors), Benjamin Arthur (Brentford), Tomas Cvancara (Borussia Monchengladbach), Junior Adamu (SC Freiburg, now Schalke) and Joel Mvuka (Lorient) all returning to their parent clubs.
Giving his thoughts on the situation Sutton said: “Martin worked wonders last season. I didn’t see Celtic winning the title from the position which he was put in on a couple of occasions.
“I mean, the run towards the end of the season was extraordinary, but I still think you can’t get away from the fact there needs to be a lot of change at Celtic in terms of recruitment.

“Martin worked wonders last season. I didn’t see Celtic winning the title from the position which he was put in on a couple of occasions.
“They’ve got the Champions League qualifier which is really important and, however exciting it was for Celtic fans to end up getting over the line last season, you can’t get away from the fact that Celtic struggled at times throughout the season, I’m sure Martin will be looking to bring players in.”
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the former Celtic hero added: “It’ll be interesting to see who goes out from Celtic. It looks like Reo Hatate will go, possibly Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels, but they’re big players for the team.
“Who are Celtic going to replace those type of players with? Celtic are possibly going to have to spend up to or more than £50million really because the squad does need a rebuild.”

There’s probably a very good reason Chris Sutton isn’t a Football Manager!
With his thinking on money management, he’d be in partnership with Ally the pieman McCoist in his gardening business!
As we have proven years ago after year after year after year, you don’t HAVE to “splash the cash” to be a success!
This is exactly why the old Rangers are now EXTINCT!
In fact, look at the £40M+ that Brendan Rodgers blew in his last season! He didn’t exactly come out with a better squad, did he?
I loved bid Sutton as a player. I love the fact he’s still Celtic daft!
But stay in your lane Chris! Stay in your lane!
