Celtic’s hopes of signing Borussia Dortmund winger Cole Campbell are over after the highly-rated youngster agreed a move to Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg.
The Hoops held discussions over a deal for the 20-year-old last month after his loan spell at Hoffenheim failed to result in a permanent transfer.
Although Hoffenheim had a €7.5 million option to buy, Campbell was expected to be available for a lower fee this summer.

Instead, Elversberg have secured the signature of the USA youth international. According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, the newly promoted side have agreed a five-year contract with Campbell as part of a permanent transfer, with Dortmund including a buy-back clause in the deal.
Campbell will now be part of Elversberg’s squad for the club’s first-ever Bundesliga campaign.
Elsewhere, Celtic are expected to have a busy summer transfer window, with plenty of movement anticipated both in terms of arrivals and departures.
