Celtic face a tough test in the Premier Sports Cup after being handed an away trip to face Dundee United at Tannadice…

At the start of every season, the target for Celtic football club is to win the league, but a domestic treble is also always a major target, with a clean sweep of trophies a achievement we always like to aim for.

Indeed we have won a clean sweep of domestic honours on five occasions this past decade, so hopefully we will be successful in winning every single trophy once again come May 2027. That will be an objective for Martin O’Neill and his coaching staff ahead of the big kick-off next Monday evening against Dundee at Celtic Park.

To do that of course we have to first of all win the League Cup, nowadays also known as the Premier Sports Cup. After failing at the final hurdle last year in a dreadful 3-1 defeat against St Mirren during the disastrous Wilfried Nancy era, Celtic will be even more determined to bring the cup back to Paradise.

Earlier this afternoon Celtic found out our first opponents as we target League Cup glory for the 23rd time in our proud and unbroken history.

And it’s a tough one too, as we were handed an away trip to Tannadice, a venue we suffered defeat twice last season to take on Jim Goodwin’s Arabs. Clearly Dundee United will be fancying their chances due to their previous meetings with the champions on their own turf last season, and with it being a cup tie, it’s anyone’s game.

Our Glasgow rivals, were of course handed a home clash against holders St Mirren, but the Buddies have suffered a drastic decline in form since beating Celtic to win the cup last December at the national stadium.

So imagine our shock to learn that they once again pulled a favourable tie out of the hat!

But we can’t complain about our own obstacle, as we’ve got to beat the best of the rest to win any competition, so it’s a challenge we will face head on when the tie comes around.

The games will take place on the weekend of 15th August, and with our game alongside an Ayrshire derby being the pick of the bunch, I’d imagine it will be televised, meaning we might see a Friday or Saturday evening kick off.

Ad of course an away draw means that the HCTS won’t be in operation this time around.

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Shorts colleagues.
