Hoops transfer target Mika Baur is awaiting the green light to fly to Scotland for a medical with Celtic…

The reigning Scottish Premiership Champions are said to be locked in talks with the German U21 cap’s club SC Paderborn at present, in the hopes of finalising a deal for the midfielder.

Mika Baur link was a bolt out of the blue

In a bolt out of the blue earlier this week, Baur’s name hit the headlines in connection with Celtic when both Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg reported that Martin O’Neill’s side were in talks with the 22-year-old central midfield ace, having already agreed personal terms on a possible contract with the player. This meant that only a fee had to be agreed between Celtic and Paderborn.

Easier said than done, wherever Michael Nicholson is concerned many Celtic supporters immediately thought.

Nevertheless, it was a much needed update and shot in the arm for a support that has grown increasingly frustrated and even angry at the way the club slowly conducts it’s business in the transfer market for some time now.

‘Slower than a snail on a plate of snotters’

There was a horribly description line on social media yesterday, describing the pace of Celtic’s transfer negotiations to sign (not sell) players as slower than a snail on a plate of snotters.

With only Camilo Duran signed from FC Qarabag in the Azerbaijani league, news certainly has been slow on the incomings category this close season.

Countless names have appeared across the media and been reported on extensively, however, very little movement has come to fruition, leaving supporters scratching their heads, knowing that major surgery is clearly required on a squad that somehow got over the finish line domestically under Irishman Martin O’Neill and his two assistants, Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham.

    Baur’s name was definitely unexpected

Baur’s name was definitely unexpected but was needed to give the fanbase hope for the forthcoming campaign which kicks-off on Monday 3rd August against Dundee at Celtic Park, with the UEFA Champions League play-off following not long after flag day.

That is a major concern as usual with this Board, as they just seem incapable of getting deals concluded in a timely fashion to bed players in properly for these qualifiers.

    Update from Anthony Joseph

Going back to the Mika Baur situation though, Anthony Joseph  has given another update on the German’s possible move to Paradise. The Sky Sports journalist advised the Celtic supporters stating that Baur is now awaiting the green light to fly to Scotland and complete a medical with the Bhoys, as both clubs are now extremely close on an agreement.

Posting via his X account, Joseph stated:

“Celtic are hopeful of agreeing a £4m deal to sign Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur. The clubs have been locked in talks but are yet to reach a full agreement at this stage. Baur, 22, is keen to join Celtic and is awaiting the green light to head to the UK for a medical.”

As usual, in true fashion, Paul Gillespie shows an extraordinary lack of business acumen and basic understanding of how the real world works when it comes to buying players. That is at least the players the club WANTS and not so much players just to make up the numbers!
Unlike the two clubs who incidentally TRAILED Celtic in the league at the end of last season, the FIVE TIMES champions, have to create, AND maintain our own funds!
We do not have the luxury of running off to a Tony Bloom, or San Francisco 49ers ownership to subsidize player purchases or salaries!
We have to do it alone!
THIS IS WHY A HEALTHY BANK BALANCE IS MORE IMPORTANT AT CELTIC THAN ANY OTHER SCOTTISH CLUB!
Once our funds go, we have no place to turn for handouts
