Camilo Duran is said to be close to becoming Celtic’s first signing of the summer window…

The Colombian striker is of high interest to the Scottish giants and the club had reportedly intensified talks with his team Qarabag on Friday, as they look to find a breakthrough.

Duran enjoyed a fabulous season last year at the Azerbaijani side, scoring 15 goals and chipping in with 10 assists along the way.

Five of those goals came in Europe’s elite club competition, netting against Benfica, Eintracht Franfurt, Ajax and English outift Newcastle United, whilst two of those came in one match against the Germans too.

That form has alerted bigger clubs to his potential and it now looks as though the Bhoys are closing in on an agreement with both Duran and his current employers, if domestic media reports are to be believed.

Futbolinfo.az are informing the public that the likelihood of Duran joining the Five-in-a-row Scottish Premiership Champions is increasing by the day.

Translated into Enlgish, the publication states: “The likelihood of Qarabag striker Camilo Duran moving to Scotland is increasing by the day.”

Citing local media, Futbolinfo.az reports that Celtic is prepared to go to great lengths to secure the Colombian forward’s transfer.

“After an initial offer of £1.7 million was rejected, the Scottish club is ready to pay the £3 million demanded by Qarabag. However, the Glasgow-based side is first attempting to reach an agreement at £2.5 million. Management is prepared to agree to the £3 million fee as a last resort.

Notably, the 24-year-old footballer scored five goals in 10 UEFA Champions League matches last season. The current state of negotiations suggests a strong possibility that Camilo will move to Scotland.”

The supporters will now face an anxious final wait to see if the club refrain from doing anything stupid and try and jeopardise the deal for Camilo Duran in any way, shape, or form.

Duran is clearly well within our price range and has proven his pedigree already, so this should be shooting fish in a barrel stuff from the club.

Easier said than done, wherever Dermot Desmond, Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay are concerned, mind you…

That quote about the initial offer of €1.7m, if true, just sums us up. Embarrassing.
