Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn looks set for a move to the MLS. The shot stopper spent the summer in the States as Scotland failed to get out the group at the FIFA World Cup but could find himself Stateside on a regular basis with talks underway regarding a move to San Jose Earthquakes.
According to Sky Sports, the 30-year-old is in talks with the MLS side after he was released by Nottingham Forest.
Celtic had been linked with a move for Gunn but it always seemed unlikely given the limitations with his feet. Vil Sinisalo assumed the No.1 role from Kasper Schmeichel after the Dane’s shoulder injury eventually forced him out the team. It is expected that Celtic will sign another keeper to compete with the Finnish International but it’s unlikely to be Gunn.
Gunn has established himself as Scotland’s first-choice goalkeeper since committing his international future to the Tartan Army. Born in Norwich and the son of former Scotland goalkeeper Bryan Gunn, he developed through Manchester City’s academy before starring for Norwich City, Southampton and later Nottingham Forest. He had a steady World Cup, making some great saves in a damp squib of a display from Scotland.
Gunn has become a dependable presence between the posts for Scotland, becoming the first choice of Steve Clarke when he was fit. He made his Scotland debut on 25 March 2023 in a 3-0 win over Cyprus at Hampden, launching his international career.
