Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou took his new side Al Nassr to the scene of Celtic’s greatest ever achievement, which is of course the Estádio Nacional…
It was the venue that gave birth to the legendary Lisbon Lions on 25th May 1967, after Jock Stein’s wonderful side beat Inter Milan 2-1 to be crowned European Champions, registering an achievement that will never be equalled by Celtic, or any other Scottish club for that matter.

This was also the first time a British club, and non Latin side had lifted the prestigious trophy, and it was even more impressive as the starting XI were born no further than 30 miles from Glasgow.
The Aussie who was dismissed after a short spell at Nottingham Forest, has spent the summer as a World Cup pundit, and was recently appointed as the head of the Saudi Pro League side. He now manages a squad featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and other international stars.
This visit by the Europa League winning former Spurs manager was particularly timely, as Celtic are set to celebrate the 60th anniversary of that triumph in the upcoming season.
Big Ange beamed for photographs as he made his way up the famous tunnel that Billy McNeill led the rest of the Lisbon Lions on that iconic day in May 1967, and any Celtic supporter who has ever visited the famous old ground will know the pride of being present in such an iconic and incredibly nostalgic arena.

Ange of course had a successful stint at Celtic, delivering five trophies in two seasons and restoring our domestic dominance after his 2021 arrival, and done so by playing some of the best football we’d ever witnessed at Paradise, before moving on to the Premier League with Spurs.
He is now preparing Al Nassr for the forthcoming campaign, and looked genuinely delighted to be at such a historic scene, where of course he is fully aware of its significance.
It’s a shame that Ange didn’t get another job at a big club but he’s going to be a very rich man after his stint in Saudi Arabia. Fair play to him. Once a Celt, Ange…
