Sweden legend Tomas Brolin has advised Benjamin Nygren to stay at Celtic to continue to thrive rather than jump ship after just one season at the Scottish Champions…
Nygren signed for Celtic on 25 June 2025 in a £1.75m move from Danish side FC Nordsjælland and enjoyed a stand-out first season at the home of the Scottish Premiership trophy. The Swede scored 21 goals for Celtic, including four in the Europa League and was named as Celtic’s Player of the Year.
His form at Celtic caught the eye of the Sweden Head Coach Graham Potter who gave him his first senior cap in March. Nygren helped Sweden progress via the play-offs to the World Cup finals and started in their opening match last night against Tunisia.
His outstanding form has attracted attention from Premier League clubs, most notably Tottenham and a record breaking fee could be on the cards for Celtic if they decide to cash in just one year into the five year deal Nygren signed less that a year ago.
Tomas Brolin, who played in England for both Leeds and Crystal Palace, reckons that Nygren should follw his friend Henrik Larsson by continuing tho thrive at Celtic – at least for the time being.
“What is best for Benjamin Nygren? I have no idea. He has had a fantastic development curve at Celtic, and it is probably fantastic to stay there and continue that development curve until the next step when he is ready,” Brolin said, as reported by Glasgow Times.
He added: “Whether that is this year or next year or whatever, I actually don’t know. But, his curve has been very positive, so then it can be good to stay in the same place for a while longer too.”
When asked if he had ever had the chance to play for Celtic, Brolin revealed that he wasn’t aware of any such opportunities but reckoned he too would have thrived in the Celtic environment.
“I don’t think so. I know that Henrik Larsson thrived very well at Celtic anyway. So I probably would have thrived at Celtic too since I know Henrik very well and he thrived very well at Celtic,” Brolin said.
“So if I were to choose like this in hindsight, which is very strange, then Celtic sounds like a good club.”
