Robbie Keane will be holding discussions with the Celtic hierarchy this evening, over potentially becoming the club’s new manager for next season and beyond…
However, a new update has emerged from the Scottish Sun, who claim Martin O’Neill has NOT been discounted from continuing on as Hoops boss next term.
Keane worked for Israeli club, Maccabi Tel-Aviv
Robbie Keane, 45, took the decision to leave Hungarian side Ferencvaros, after they succumbed to defeat in their quest for another title, having been beaten to the punch by Gyori ETO. The Irishman was only in the Eastern European state for a short period of time, having moved there from Israeli club, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, in the January of 2025.
Many have questioned the sense in going for a candidate such as Keane, with his limited experience in football management a real concern, ahead of what promises to be a summer of sweeping change at Celtic Park.
Wedded to this, is the belief that questions linger over the former Liverpool and Leeds United striker’s choice to manage an Israeli side, in what was a strange time to do so, given current events.
Dermot Desmond will ultimately decideÂ
Despite this, majority shareholder Dermot Desmond and the Celtic executives are pressing ahead with talks to make Keane the club’s new gaffer, with discussions scheduled for tonight. The exact details of this are as of yet unknown, but it is widely accepted Keane is the main man in the frame at present to take over from his countryman.

Martin O’Neill is by no means out of the picture
According to the report though, Martin O’Neill is by no means out of the picture presently, with several members in the boardroom holding him in the highest of esteem for rescuing their botched operational campaign, and rightfully so.
The ex-Aston Villa and Leicester City manager saved the Board’s blushes not once, but TWICE, and this cannot be allowed to be forgotten, no matter what comes next.
Stay tuned for updatesÂ
For now, it appears that it is a straight shootout between Robbie Keane and Martin O’Neill for the Celtic job.
Stay tuned…

Still say it is more of whether Keane and MoN can actually form a working relationship between them, moreso myself?
DD is no stranger to making controversial decisions within our club, and just wouldn’t be us, if controversial decisions wasn’t in existence?
But fail to see how Keane could be offered our managerial job, if MoN wasn’t involved in some sort of capacity myself?
Impossible to say if it could or would work well for ourselves?
Personally think it could work well, despite the outcry that would follow if Keane is named as manager imo?
The Israeli connection for Keane isn’t going to go down well for many within our support, that isn’t in dispute?
For myself, I have never been a fan of mixing sport and politics together. Not easily done in this day and age all the same, especially within our club imo?
