Stephen Welsh looks all set to join Swansea City, following the decision to tear up the last year of his Celtic contract, as an act of good will from the club for his loyalty throughout the years…
Welsh enjoyed six years playing for his boyhood clubÂ
26-year-old Welsh was a breakout academy star, making his debut in the Scottish Cup at Hamilton, back in February of 2020. It seemed that we could expect big things from the young central defender, who was knocking on the door to the Celtic first-team in the period after that appearance at New Douglas Park, just before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Welsh would go on to have a patchy relationship at Celtic Park though, with spells in and out of the side at various times, with injuries playing a significant part in that intermittent inclusion.
Stephen Welsh enjoyed numerous successful loan spells away from CelticÂ
The young Scot was highly-regarded though, with interest from all over Europe in his services at times, with Serie A side Udinese even willing to shell out millions of pounds to bring him to Italy at one stage.

Celtic opted to keep Welsh, and he was happy to stay, but when it became apparent that Welsh wouldn’t ever manage to crack that starting XI, other options were pursued.
Welsh starred at Motherwell under Jens Berthal Askou
Most recently, the centre-back was at Motherwell, where Jens Berthal Askou admitted the player was essential in helping him implement his fresh and exciting style of play, which drew many plaudits last season.
Fresh reports have claimed that Welsh now looks to be on the move to the English Championship, as Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports claimed a two-year-deal has been agreed to take the free agent to Wales.
It advises that there will be the option of another year and that should all be completed, it will be officially announced on 1 July, after his contract at the Hoops officially ends on 30 June.
