According to Sky Sports journalist Geraint Hughes, Celtic managerial target Craig Bellamy is committed to Wales. Bellamy later in the day confirmed this saying “Listen, I’m not going anywhere”…

Wales boss Bellamy, 46, had been rumoured to be in the running to take over the reins at the Scottish Premiership Champions, with interim manager Martin O’Neill’s future not set in stone.

The Double winning gaffer returned to Paradise twice this year to help the club fight it’s way out of the malaise that it had self-manufactured from up above in the boardroom.

With Brendan Rodgers leaving under a cloud of suspicion and a scathing parting shot from majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, O’Neill was asked to come in and man the fort until Desmond and his underlings could source and appropriate replacement.

    They did just that.

    The Nancy Fiasco

In a move exactly like the Celtic we have come to know more and more recently, they hired the hapless French boss Wilfred Nancy, from Columbus Crew in the MLS.

That spell is better left forgotten, as the man who used to be Thierry Henry’s assistant led us to the brink of disaster, before being jettisoned out of Paradise, in the aftermath of a crushing 3-1 home defeat to the third placed finishers from Ibrox.

The club’s custodians returned cap-in-hand to 74-year-old O’Neill, who was enjoying some quiet time after the festive period.

Thankfully, the veteran boss and club legend said yes to another return to the dugout and set about repairing the damage that had been done to his good work, following the vociferous departure of countryman Rodgers back in October of 2025, then the scarcely believable Nancy debacle.

Martin O’Neill delivered the most unlikely double for Celtic

The two-time European Cup winner proved his gravitas once more, by leading the Glasgow giants to another Championship and Scottish Cup Double in his second interim spell, despite the best efforts of those above to ensure we finished empty-handed.

Now that O’Neill has dragged the club kicking and screaming over the finish line, his future is uncertain and the Celtic Board have given no indication as to their plans for the new season, that is, despite asking supporters to cough up hundreds of pounds again for season tickets with no direction of travel agreed upon.

Bellamy gave an update to Sky Sports journalist

Now Sky Sports journalist, Geraint Hughes, yesterday revealed that Wales head coach Bellamy is committed to his job in the international set-up.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Hughes opined: “I had a really good catch up with him very recently. He’s been very aware about the interest in him from club management. He sees that very much in his future but not in his immediate future.

“He is 100 per cent staying with Wales,” Bellamy’s fellow countryman added. “When Scott Parker lost his job at Burnley he (Bellamy) was immediately the frontrunner for that job. He’s been linked with Celtic, first in November and again now. But Bellamy wants to stay with Wales. He doesn’t see the job he is doing as complete. He is absolutely gutted that they are not at the World Cup.”

    Chris Sutton’s worrying remarks

It looks like another avenue for the Celtic hierarchy is closing and if like Chris Sutton reckoned in his column at the weekend, they are waiting for O’Neill to say no to then chase other candidates, we are in trouble.

The scale of this summer’s rebuild is substantial and we cannot be going into it with the same attitude and presumptions that we always do: namely that everything will just work itself out.

Root and branch change is required at every level and facet of the club, with the manager’s position of the utmost and most pressing concern. We can only hope the Celtic Board see it as the supporters do…

And here’s Craig Bellamy himself confirming that he’s staying on as the Wales manager via Sky Sports yesterday afternoon…
