It’s fair to say that Liam Scales is a player who splits opinion among the Celtic supporters, and even after suffering a dip in form at some points last season, he’s stood up when it mattered, playing a vital part in our dramatic last day title win.

At one stage Liam was our most consistent player last term, even when the ever reliable Cameron Carter Vickers was playing alongside him in the centre of the defence, then when the ‘Big Strong Man’ succumbed to that Achilles injury, the Irishman still managed to perform, forming a solid looking partnership with Auston Trusty, as both players became key performers under the leadership of the legendary Martin O’Neill.

However, there was a stage, particularly before the split when Liam looked out of sorts, most likely due to the demands of being seen as the main man in the defence, and it certainly looked as if playing week in week out had started to take its toll.

But Scales being the leader and professional that he is, refused to buckle under the pressure and put in a string of stellar performances as the side won seven fixtures in a row to clinch a fifth consecutive title.

Liam Scales has once again refused to buckle under the pressure, and fought hard to prove his real worth in this Celtic side, proving how much of an asset he is to our club.

We need quality and experienced players at the club, players with a great determination to succeed, and Liam ticks all those boxes. He undoubtedly has a big part to play at Celtic Football Club for may seasons to come.

Martin O’Neill is a big admirer of Liam Scales 

That I suppose is just my own opinion but as I reckon it’s shared by Martin O’Neill – who knows a thing or two about the Beautiful Game, then It’s safe to say that Liam Scales will be one of the first names on his teammsheet this coming season. That’s something that the Republic of Ireland defender has earned on merit.
